2. M.D. Program Program at Caribbean Medical School – Avalon University
AUSOM is one of the best Caribbean Medical Schools and is well known for its intensive and accelerated Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program. AUSOM’s medical program is geared to prepare students for the USMLE and U.S. residency placement. AUSOM’s trimester schedule enables us to condense the traditional 4-year Medical School curriculum, while still maintaining the prerequisite amount of program contact hours. AUSOM’S students spend 4 semesters in the basic sciences followed by 72 weeks in the Clinical Sciences Program. These 72 weeks of training include 48 weeks in required clinical rotations (or clerkships) and 24 weeks of elective rotations in U.S. teaching hospitals. Required rotations include Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Obstetrics/Gynecology. Some elective rotations include Cardiology, Radiology, Pulmonology, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Gastroenterology, Neurology and Dermatology. This exposure allows students to choose which field of medicine they wish to pursue.
